About

I created Gut Better® to help people heal from the negative effects of the modern diet on gut health. Modern diets almost completely lack prebiotic fiber, and we suffer a lot of health problems as a result. Prebiotic fiber is soluble fiber, which is different from insoluble fiber, found in things like bran, salad, fruits and vegetables. Prebiotic fiber travels undigested through our digestive tract to the large intestine, providing food for beneficial gut bacteria that live there and comprise our biome. When our diet supports our gut biome, we naturally produce short-chain fatty acids like butyrate, acetate, and propionate that nourish colon cells, reduce inflammation, improve mineral absorption, and support the immune system. Think of prebiotics as fertilizer for your biome, helping it flourish so we can thrive. Foods high in prebiotic fiber include chicory root, dandelion greens, Jerusalem artichokes, raw garlic, asparagus, and leeks. If you find it difficult to eat large amounts of these foods daily, it’s best to find a supplement, ideally one that is delicious and easy to take.
1 teaspoon of Gut Better® contains all the prebiotics you need for the day, plus naturally occurring vitamins and minerals for extra benefits. One teaspoon of Gut Better® also contains 137% of the RDA of polyphenol antioxidants, which scavenge free radicals in your skin, brain and heart, preventing damage from aging, cholesterol and toxins. Gut Better is simple, containing only 3 ingredients. It contains no emulsifiers, sugar, caffeine, gluten, dairy, heavy metals, mold, allergens….nothing that is detrimental to your health and wellbeing.
The main ingredient in Gut Better® is Maya Nut, a rainforest tree seed from the Brosimum alicastrum tree that is wild-harvested from virgin rainforests in Nicaragua and Guatemala. Maya Nut is an ancient food with a fascinating history. Maya Nut was a staple food for indigenous peoples throughout tropical America and played a key role in the rise of the Mayan Empire, among others. Also known as Ramon Seed, Capomo, Ojoche, Mojo, Ax, Ujuxte, Manchinga and many other indigenous names, Maya Nut is the seed of a giant rainforest tree in the fig family. It is not a true nut and does not cause allergic reactions. We have conducted a lot of research on Maya Nut and are using the results of that research to create a delicious product that can heal your body from the inside. Adding Maya Nut to your diet creates a cascade of health benefits through its action on the gut biome. When the gut bacteria are healthy and thriving, they create perfect conditions for good digestion and overall health, better immune function, weight loss, energy, disease resistance, and longevity.
The Maya Nut we use in Gut Better® is sourced from Maya Nut Institute from women’s cooperatives in Nicaragua and Guatemala. It is a fair wage, wild harvested product which is always tested for mold, heavy metals, herbicides and mycotoxins to ensure purity. It is hand-harvested from the rainforest, sun-dried, roasted, and milled to produce the powder we use in our product. It is delicious and has a rich chocolatey aroma and taste. Maya Nut is one of the purest, most nutritious foods you can eat. Because it comes from wild trees in the rainforest, the soils have never been disturbed, and the ecosystems where it grows are healthy and thriving. By purchasing Gut Better, you help sustain a rainforest economy, where healthy forest provides dignified jobs and income for local women. This motivates them to protect their forests and to plant more trees. Visit www.MayaNutInstitute.org to learn more. To purchase Maya Nut powder, visit www.mayasuperfoods.com.
Other ingredients in Gut Better are organic virgin coconut oil and organic Agave Inulin. Coconut Oil provides an excellent source of energy for your body. We use organic Inulin from Agave Root. Inulin occurs naturally in many plants. It is 100% prebiotic fiber. Inulin feeds your gut biome, improves calcium absorption and possibly magnesium absorption. It helps regulate blood sugar levels and contributes to a “full feeling” because when your biome has sufficient food to eat, you tend to have fewer food cravings. The “sweet” taste of Gut Better comes from the Inulin, which tastes sweet but contains zero calories.
